Ratepayers groups in south Mississauga held a "petition drive-through" yesterday to collect signatures from people who don't want a power plant to be built in the Clarkson area.
People lined up in their cars from 4-8 p.m. at Chartwell Church on Lakeshore Rd. W. to sign the petition, which will be presented to the Ontario Legislature.
Local residents, MPPs, City of Mississauga councillors and school board trustees have already signed the document, which requests that no contract be awarded by Ontario Power Authority for any gas-fired power plant that would impact the Clarkson airshed.
Mississauga South MP Paul Szabo is also mailing a copy of the petition to households in his constituency. Residents can return it by mail, postage-paid.
